Smellin’ donuts
We were going through Portland, Oregon on a Saturday a couple months ago. We drove by a pink building that attracted my attention. I saw the sign: Voodoo Donuts.
I told my husband that one of our daughter’s friends works there. He suggested that we stop by and say hi, to surprise him. Well, we were the ones who were surprised, when we saw the line going out the door and around the building.
I decided to just run in and say hi, so I cut through the line of about 40 people who were waiting to buy donuts. I went into the shop, around the crowd and I could see he was not there.
I returned to the car and my husband mentioned that I smelled like donuts. After driving for another 20 minutes, I caught a whiff of my hair– still smelled like donuts!
So, at Voodoo Donuts, you can spend 20 seconds inside without even touching a donut, and 20 minutes later, you will still be smellin’ like donuts.
I just thought about this because yesterday I kept smelling the phantom donut! I don’t eat them, I didn’t see one, but all afternoon and evening, I smelled them!!!
May 10 dream
I am on a hillside with my husband, overlooking a site where my company is having a picnic. I wasn’t invited since I am just a temporary employee.
We go into a cabin and the Director and President Obama come in with a few other people. The Director asks me what I do. I tell him I work for WSU and am working on the Long-Term Water Supply and Demand Report.
He tells the President that I am the one who keeps making all the final corrections.
Our daughter comes in and she’s holding a tiny baby. She tells me it’s her baby and I see it’s a newborn, tiny, pink, beautiful. I ask what her name is. I know it’s a girl, dressed in pink.
She tells me, “I named her Minerva because I had to get my nerve up to tell you about her.”
I hold her and see that her toenails are all painted orange. She is so beautiful, so tiny!
I tell President Obama, “This is my first grandchild!”
Our daughter is happy and relieved.
A word from the governor
Dream this morning: I am at Governor Gregoire’s office doing an interview with her. We get finished and she goes to lunch. I have a lot of things to clean up and take with me as I go. I am picking up things and putting them in order. I have to dismantle a bed, that is going with me, as well as a canopy that we use when we have picnics. The poles have to be taken apart and everything has to fit into a thin case.
I accidentally spill some popcorn on the floor and I need to pick up every kernel, popped and unpopped. I am taking so long, my husband comes in to help me and I am very grateful. I have been cleaning up for nearly 2 hours when the governor comes back. I am afraid she will be mad, but this all needs to be done, even if we are taking a long time.
She looks at me and she knows my name. She tells me I should be on the state irrigation board. I look at her, puzzled, but don’t want to disregard or discount her opinion, so I don’t say anything. She tells me I know more about it than I think I know, and she knows I can do it.
Reality: my contract at work, with the state of Washington, expires on April 30. Yet today, I was told that it has been extended for 2 more weeks. I think the governor’s message in my dream is that I can get another job working for the state, and I need to have confidence. I can do it!
Directing a music video
I had yet another dream that I am directing a music video. This one has Beyonce’ as the star. The dancers are phenomenal, with all kinds of fantastic moves. They are rehearsing, and I go to get a hand-held HD video camera to get some close-ups. In front are 5 dancers dressed in silver outfits doing these things I call pinwheels – they stand there and bend forward, then flip their legs around in a circle, over their heads and back down, turning as they go. The silver of the outfits flips around with them, and it is a beautiful sight. I am just getting everything ready for Beyonce’, as she is about to come out and join the rest of the dancers.
A man comes and questions what I am doing, and I say it is always best to get more footage than you need, you can always edit and put all the best together.
I met Micky!
On Saturday night, my mom and I saw Micky Dolenz in concert at the Muckleshoot casino in Auburn, WA. The show was wonderful! He sang lots of the old favorites, such as Ima Believer, Last Train to Clarksville, Steppin’ Stone, and my personal favorite, Sometime in the Morning. Also he introduced his sister, Coco, who was singing backup. They sang together an old Everly Brothers tune, Cryin’ in the Rain, beautiful. Their voices blend like only siblings can. She also sang a couple songs, like Different Drum.
Micky also did a tribute to Davy, singing Daydream Believer and Little Bit Me, Little Bit You. The show lasted about an hour and a half.
Then Micky signed autographs! We stood in line for about an hour and I bought a CD of Micky Dolenz “Live” and a photo of The Monkees, both of which he signed. I had a lady take our picture together ! I was a little sad when it ended and a bodyguard ushered him out of the casino.
Mom and I returned to the motel where my husband and son were waiting. My son was so disappointed because he loves Micky Dolenz but he’s only 14 and the club doesn’t allow minors.
I was all wound up so I decided to go to relax in the hot tub downstairs. While I was walking, I heard a voice- could it be? I walked down that hallway, and there he was! Standing and talking to a man, Micky Dolenz was right there! I stopped and talked to him for a minute, telling him how much I loved him forever. He’s really taller in person than on TV!
He asked if I saw the show, I said yes, and I loved it! I told him I love his album, King For a Day and I babbled for a moment. He was nice and he smiled. Then he told me, “Night-night,” my cue to leave. I went down to the hot tub on a cloud!
The next morning we were in the breakfast room and my mom brought a lady to meet me– Micky, sister, Coco! Mom met her in the elevator! We talked for a few minute and my husband took our picture together. She is very nice, a sweet lady. I told her our whole family came to Auburn so I could see Micky for my birthday, which is Tuesday, April 10. She said she just had hers on Thursday, April 5, so we are both Aries, both April Angels.
I was so excited, then later our daughter came to join us. While we were in Mom’s room, Mom said, “Isn’t that your Micky? And his sister?” We watched them get in the car, then they left. Bye, Micky and Coco, thanks for the birthday weekend!!!
Lose weight while you sleep?
When you read of a way to lose weight while you sleep, you think, oh, that’s impossible. But why do I ALWAYS lose weight that way?
It’s true! No matter how much I eat or don’t eat during the day, my weight increases. Then when I sleep, I lose weight. Usually I just get back down to the same weight I was the morning before, but once in a great while, I will be a pound UNDER my weight of the day before.
So, every night, I lose weight while I sleep! I NEVER lose weight while I am awake.
What about you?
Two dreams this morning
1. I am sleeping in a back room and I hear someone in the kitchen, rattling pots and pans. At first I think it’s my husband, then I remember he went out of town. I am very tired and sluggish and I can’t get up. I try to listen and I hear voices, two guys talking and laughing, but I can’t tell what they are saying. I force myself to get up and go to the kitchen. Two Hispanic young men, maybe in their 20s, are starting to cook something in our kitchen!
They are surprised to see me – they thought no one was at home. I tell them to get out and one, the taller guy (they are both good-looking but both overweight, much stronger than I am), wants to hurt me, but the shorter guy smiles at me and says they didn’t mean any harm, they just thought the house was empty. The shorter guy gets the taller guy to leave.
After they leave, I see our neighbors (and this is like a duplex or two homes connected) and they are also Hispanic. The grandmother is very mad at me and she says I should have just run out the back way. She shows me how I could have escaped by going through a door to their home, and I make a note of it. She thought I was in real danger and tells me that I need to be more careful. A teenage daughter who reminds me of our granddaughter apologizes to me. She thinks the intruders may have heard her when she was on the phone, telling her friend that my husband was going to Seattle.
I look around our house and see all the mess I have to clean up.
2. I am with Melissa and we are going to an event where she is somewhat in charge. We are dressed up and we arrive. It is kind of like a banquet but we are seated at small round tables. There is some great program going on, but I am just a guest and don’t know what is going to happen, or who will be there. Two men sit at the table across from me and I realize they are Elton John and Ringo Starr. I can’t think of anything to say to them. I look across the room and Melissa, at one of the head tables, and she is sitting alone with Montserrat Caballé. I can’t stop staring at them as they converse because I would really like to talk to her, but it would not be proper for me to get up and leave my table.
Suddenly the event ends and we have to catch a plane. Melissa and I rush out and get in her car. She sees an odd place to park near some lockers and she’s glad she can fit her little car in there. We get out and begin to walk to the airport. We discuss what just happened.
“I can’t believe you were talking to Montserrat Caballé! I really would have liked to just tell her how much I enjoy her, just to say a word or two to her.”
“You should have! Even at the end, you could have come over to our table, just for a moment.”
“I also can’t believe I was just sitting at a table with Elton John and Ringo Starr and I didn’t even ask them for their autograph!”
We laugh, as we so often do, at the absurdity of it all.
